The highest percentage of climate-controlled self-storage units are located along the East Coast, according to a TractIQ analysis of data. Seven of the 10 counties with the highest percentage of climate-controlled facilities are located in New York and New Jersey; two are in Florida, and one is the District of Columbia.

Slightly more than 97 percent of self-storage facilities in Union County, N.J., are climate-controlled, the highest percentage in the nation. It’s trailed by Essex County, N.J. (96.8 percent); the District of Columbia (96.3 percent); Hudson County, N.J. (94.1 percent); and Kings County, N.Y. (93.9 percent).
